Remembering the Positives of Special Interests.

Having a unique and in-depth interest for an Aspie is great! Their love for nature, science, trains, planes, dolls, or whatever provides a sense of identity. Social anxieties and fears are never fun for anyone, but can be especially burdensome for people with Aspergers. It’s important to remember that special interests can help an Aspie overcome worry by providing a sense of confidence. Being able to talk about their subject of interest can reduce their anxiety and soothe them. Since they know all about their specific topic it may be hard to hear them talk about these things on a regular basis, so it’s important to keep in mind that this is a positive part of who they are.
